The Cribs Cambridge Concert reviews
Rod Rocks
Rod Stewart played "The Hits" unlike Carlos Santana at the Hard Rock, his own not other artists. He also played some songs which were pleasant surprises like Every Picture Tells A Story with chronological photos of Rod throughout his career in the background. Of course he did his standards, Maggie May, You're In My Heart and Hot Legs during which he kicked a dozen or so soccer balls into the audience. There were those in the audience who wanted him to sing Stardust or even Have I Told You Lately That I Love You but the songs he did were superb. Other surprises for me included flawless versions of Downtown Train, Some Guys Have All The Luck and Reason To Believe (which was a part of an acoustic set in the middle of the concert). He had three female background singers with remarkable range; they and Rod were in very good voice throughout the set. Rod's band was very sharp which included two guitars, bass, keyboard and two percussionists. That meant this was Rockin' Rod (not Songbook Rod) with a little bit of Disco Rod in his encore "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy". The HD screen featuring Rod and the band was crystal clear even though there are no bad seat at the Colosseum at Caesars. I only wished he had done more obscure numbers such as You Wear It Well, Handbags and Gladrags and I Was Only Joking. However, he did do some touching numbers including The Killing of Georgie and Rhythm of My Heart which he dedicated to present and past veterans. Overall it was a great start for Rod Stewart's two-year, 52 performance residency at Caesars Palace. I'd certainly go back to see him again!
